On the face of it, two groups couldn’t be more different from each other as driven Silicon Valley investors and laidback cannabis entrepreneurs. Yet just recently in San Jose California, representatives from these two groups met in a gathering organized by the cannabis investment firm MedMen.
New Excitement for Investors
The conference actually sold out, with numerous investors from Silicon Valley trying to recapture the exhilarating excitement of the dotcom era for investors. That was a time of unprecedented growth for an emerging industry, and it’s a rarity in the history of investments. But many experts see the same conditions with the new cannabis industry on the rise in the US. Admittedly, the current federal status of marijuana as a controlled
substance is still a concern for investors, and the legal future of the cannabis industry can hinge upon the policies set by an unpredictable White House administration. Yet during the conference, the overall conclusion reached by the participants was that the legalization of marijuana is virtually inevitable. It’s another reason why an increasing number of investors from Silicon Valley are betting on the cannabis industry.
